FIMFA Lx18
International Festival of Puppetry and Animated Forms
3 to 20 May 2018
Lisbon - Portugal
May is the FIMFA's month, this year in its 18th edition!
Thousands of objects, robots, automata, string puppets, vegetables, clay, shadows, manipulation of images and, as always, an invitation to see the world through other eyes... without walls.
This is a special year, FIMFA reaches the age of majority and A Tarumba celebrates 25 years!
A Tarumba - Teatro de Marionetas produces in Lisbon, from 3rd to 20th of May, the 18th edition of FIMFA Lx - International Festival of Puppetry and Animated Forms, with artistic direction by Luís Vieira and Rute Ribeiro.
Freedom, risk and artistic experiment are the keys of its programme. Multidisciplinary creations using a great diversity of techniques and aesthetic proposals (shadows, objects, full-view manipulation, visual theatre, robots, etc.) establishing connections between puppetry and other artistic fields, and as well as by placing shows which use ancestral techniques side by side with innovative languages.
In this edition, the image serves as an inspiring motto for the exploration of this language in all its aspects, from video projections to real-time manipulation. Handmade mechanisms coexist with the most current technology, in constant dialectic with the puppet, the body, the shadow and the object.
Artists departing from matter and image reveal their worldview, changing scales, analyzing, questioning our daily lives, and establishing relationships between puppetry and other arts.
The highlights of FIMFA Lx18 will be Agrupación Señor Serrano, Berlin, Amit Drori, Les Antliaclastes, Renaud Herbin and Manual Cinema, among others.
The Festival presents companies from Germany, Belgium, Slovenia, Spain, United States of America, France, England, Iran, Israel and Portugal.
FIMFA is a festival of confrontation, affirming itself as a space for discussion, training and reflection upon the contemporary puppet theatre. In addition to the presentation of shows, a number of parallel activities are developed, which include workshops, films and meetings with artists, among others.
Welcome to FIMFA!
