FIMFA Lx19

International Festival of Puppetry and Animated Forms
9 to 26 May 2019
Lisbon - Portugal

Giant puppets, bodies that become landscapes, hand shadows, moving portraits, miniature documentaries, dinosaurs, mechanical objects and so much more...
In May comes the 19th edition of FIMFA, the Great International Puppetry Arts Stage, where objects come to life!

"Puppetry is a form that is constantly re-inventing it self. In addition to keeping a tradition and a craft alive, it is fearlessly crossing the borders of other art-forms. This creates an expanded artistic expression that goes beyond ‘genre’. Puppetry is not only a form, it is a way of seeing the world, a language, a state of mind."
- Yngvild Aspeli - Plexus Polaire

A Tarumba - Teatro de Marionetas produces in Lisbon, from 9th to 26th of May, the 19th edition of FIMFA Lx - International Festival of Puppetry and Animated Forms, with artistic direction by Luís Vieira and Rute Ribeiro.

A festival of contrasts between macro and micro, with giant puppets and small objects, fascinating and controversial visual universes, combining the most unusual materials, where the art of illusion invites artists and audiences to share unique theatrical experiences.

The artists featured on this edition question the world, what is made of and what threatens it, they speak about identity, freedom, memory. They open the door to the dreams and give life to our imagination, from the universe of the contemporary puppetry.

Multidisciplinary creations using a great diversity of techniques and aesthetic proposals (shadows, objects, full-view manipulation, visual theatre, etc.), establish connections between puppetry and other artistic fields, and as well as by placing shows which use ancestral techniques side by side with innovative languages.

The Festival presents companies from Mozambique, France, Denmark, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Iran, United States of America and Portugal.

FIMFA is a festival of confrontation, affirming itself as a space for discussion, training and reflection upon the contemporary puppet theatre. In addition to the presentation of shows, a number of parallel activities are developed, which include workshops, films and meetings with artists, among others.
