The traditional Teatro Dom Roberto is back again to FIMFA! Come and meet the Portuguese glove puppet hero! He is coming from the Algarve, by the hands of Jorge Soares.
The Teatro Dom Roberto has been performed for about three centuries at fairs, pilgrimage spots, beaches and streets. The Portuguese glove puppet Dom Roberto is the cousin of Punch, Polichinelle, Pulcinella, Petrouska... The puppeteer uses a swazzle in his mouth to amplify his voice and produce remarkable sound effects. An unique opportunity to see this Portuguese traditional puppet!
The Stubborn Donkey
Inseparable mates, D. Roberto and his Donkey hit the road. At one point, distracted by the populace, the Donkey refuses to move. D. Roberto tries several tricks, without any result. To top it all, the Donkey lies down to sleep and is caught by the Dragon of Fire. Will D. Roberto find him?
D. Roberto and the Girlfriend
D. Roberto presents himself as a great music lover. He sings, plays the drum, until his girlfriend Rosa arrives and he only wants to dance. However, the ball is interrupted by another suitor of Rose that causes a stir...
BIO
Jorge Soares was born in Faro and lived mostly in Lagoa. In Lisbon, he completed the Advanced Photography Course at IPF - Instituto Português de Fotografia and left the International Relations course to receive theatrical training in various courses, workshops and seminars in the fields of Greek Tragedy, Dramatic Body Expression, Mask Technique, Creative Dance, Drama and Puppetry.
At the age of twenty, at Jardim da Estrela in Lisbon he falls in love with the D. Roberto Theatre, by the hands of João Paulo Cardoso.
In 1996 he directs his first performance at the Ideas do Levante in Lagoa, a cultural association of which he was a founding partner.
The Barraca do Gregório and its main hero, D. Roberto, O Algarvio, is born, a traditional show of Robertos, which, since 1997, has toured the Algarve and other parts of the country, performing in several festivals.
In 1999 he is one of the 12 graduates who joined the Actors, Technicians and Theatre Animators Training Course of ACTA - A Companhia de Teatro do Algarve. Between 1999 and 2009 he joined the cast of ACTA, where he directs several plays.
In 2006 she integrated and shared with Patrícia Amaral, Luísa Gonçalves, Carla Dias and Jeannine Trévidic, the educational project of the Companhia de Teatro do Algarve - VATe, awarded by Gulbenkian, participating in the direction, construction and manipulation of several puppet shows.
